Money Hungry

Money hungry is about a young girl named Raspberry. Everyone calls her greedy but she says its called preparing for a rainy. Raspberry knows a lot about rainy days. Raspberry has been homeless and living street. She vowed that she and her mother would never live on the streets again. Since then Raspberry has done any and everything to get money. She has sold rotten candy, pencils, and even cleaned up a halfway house for money. Because of this, her friends start to hate her.
Raspberry's preparation falter when she is accused of stealing and her mother throws all her money down the window. Then, they end up back on the streets. Raspberry is now faced with her worst nightmare. She can't go to her friends or anyone.
Money Hungry was a great book. I thought that Raspberry was just doing what she thought she had to do to keep off the streets. She probably took it too far and put her money before her friends. The organization that I observed is chronological order. The book was written from first to last.

Impulse, Ellen Hopkins

Impulse is about three teens named Conner, Tony, and Vanessa. They share one similarity and that is they all have tried to kill themselves and failed.
Conner is a rich kid, but his parents have a heart of stone. They expect him to be like his twin sister, perfect. Feeling no love at home and the end of his secret affair with an older woman, he feels that he has to end it with a bullet to the chest.
Tony has had a hard knock life. His mother is a crazy drunk and his father was absent most of his life. Tony want to jail at nine and exchanges sex for money. The sexually abuse he endured caused him to be confused about his sexuality. Feeling like a waste of space and that no one cares about him, Tony decides to leave the world that caused him so much pain with a bottle of pills.
Vanessa grew up with a bipolar mother and her father in the military. She cuts herself to get rid of the pain she feels from leaving her mom on the kitchen floor overdosing and from having an abortion. One night Vanessa cuts too deep and would've died if her younger brother hadn't found her and her grandmother wasn't an ex-nurse.
All three of them end up at Aspen Springs and find friendship in each other. Together, they all begin to grow and heal. Tony finds his father, Vanessa starts to forgive herself, and Connor tries but can't find his self-worth and love from his parents. All learn worth of life.
I was touched by all of their stories and could relate to what they were saying. I was hurt when Conner felt he couldn't live without the love of his family and his nanny had molested him. I think the author's intent was to speak to the teens and tell them that they aren't alone. She wanted to show that you all have something to live for and the suicide is never an option. The organization that I observed is order of importance.

The Child Called It

This book is a very unforgettable one. It is about a child who had the will to live. What started out as a loving family and turned into what is called one of the worst cases of abuse in California. Dave was starved, tortured, and isolated by his mother as his father remained indifferent to the situation.
Dave recounted the earlier times when his mother was the best mother. Her pride and joy was taking care of her family and her home. As a normal little boy, Dave was mischievous. His mother started spending a lot of time  on the couch. When she felt that corner treatment was too small, the discipline turned to abuse. She began to isolate him from the rest of the family, gave him the leftover after everyone finished eating, and tortured him. One special punishment she had for Dave was gas chamber. She would put ammonia and chlorine together and put it in a bucket in bathroom and locked him in there for hours at a time. When Dave looked to his father for help, he told him not to piss her off and let her overpower him when his father tried to talk to her about the abuse. When his mother gave birth to a baby named Richard, things become even worse. Dave loved Richard, but as Richard grew up he became his mother helper. He would lie and tell on Dave, making things worse for Dave. At the end, Dave's father decided to leave and Dave hoped with all his heart that his father would leave with him. It continues in The Lost Boy.
The story was very sad and made me cry. I putting myself in that situation, I really don't think I could survive. I felt this way because I wouldn't able to deal with the fact that the one person I should have been able to trust betrayed me in such a horrible way.
The book is written by order of events. It tells of earlier times then moves on details how things got worse until his father leaves. The book is in chronological order. The best way to organize is in a outline so all the info can be written out nicely.

If I Stay

If I Stay is written by Gayle Foreman. It book begins with a teen that takes a drive with her family one snowy morning and ends losing her whole family in a crash. She is severely hurt but alive and is left to decides if she wants to stay or give up on life. The books more interesting her spirit wandering the hospital and recalls events of her life. The book gets sad when her family, friends, and boyfriend come visit her in the hospital. The main idea of the story is about Mia's decision on if she wanted to die or to choose life.
I really liked the story and found it hard to put the book down. It made me very sad but showed me the love of family and that young love does exist. I would recommend anyone to read it. I heard a rumor of a movie version coming out but the movie is never same as the book.
The way the book is written is that her spirit floats around the hospital seeing her friends and extended family. As she sees them and decides if she wants to die, she remembers certain memories. So the book isn't written by chapter, but by relevance to the story.   Because of this, I would use a thought web to write notes.

Materials and Free Choice

I just took a quiz about what type of reader I am. The results are that I like to read drama and fiction. I sort of agree with the results. I love books packed with drama and action even I hate it in my own life. I also love suspense and mystery that  keep me on the edge of my seat.
The last book I read and enjoyed was Deliver Me From Evil. It was about a woman that pretended to get kidnapped so she could get money from husband so she get divorce him. She felt had to do this because she had signed a prenup. As the "kidnapping" is in motion, she reminised about her life and how she had gotten where she was now. I loved this book because the it kept you on your toes and every few chapters had a new twist.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone who has my taste in books!
